You Space Me is the cult classic of Luke’s records. It was received warmly in Portland, OR and earned him a seat at the more reputable venues up there.
The sound of the album is vast reverb-y cellos with vast reverb-y beats. Thick vocals, and folk influences. Several favorites came out of this album, especially “Tuesday” and “Prophet”
“You Space Me was writ and recorded upon my arrival to Portland, OR, in 2001. It was a time of enormous transformation in my life.
Most of the recording was done from my bedroom in a 2-bedroom apartment on the 29th block of SE Hawthorne Blvd. I used a drum machine for most of the beats, a few weird mics. Most of these songs were performed all over town in Portland at that time. Especially at the Red and Black on SE Division.”
